The 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award marks a defining milestone in our nation’s history. It commemorates a landmark achievement in Philippine diplomacy that affirmed our rights under international law and demonstrated that disputes can be resolved peacefully through the rule of law.

As the nation begins its commemoration leading to the historic anniversary on 12 July 2026, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea invites all National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, Constitutional Offices, State Universities and Colleges, public and private educational institutions, private sector organizations, civil society organizations, and all Filipinos to dedicate their regular Monday Flag-Raising Ceremony on 06 July 2026
to this historic occasion.

By taking part in this simultaneous nationwide observance, we honor a victory won through law, pay tribute to those who continue to safeguard our sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction, and reaffirm our shared commitment to peace, justice, and the rules-based international order.

On 06 July, let every flag raised across the Philippines affirm one enduring truth: that a nation united in purpose will always find strength in the rule of law. Together, let us commemorate this historic milestone with pride, purpose, and patriotism.

Message for the Flag-Raising Ceremony:

Share the Message, Strengthen the Nation

Today, the Philippine flag flies over a nation that, ten years ago, chose law over force, peace over intimidation, and principle over coercion. That choice shaped our history. It continues to shape our future.

A decade ago, the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award affirmed the Philippines’ sovereign rights under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and reinforced the principle that protects all nations that disputes are resolved through law, not through might.

That victory belongs to every Filipino. It belongs to our fisherfolk who depend on our seas for their livelihood; to the brave men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and every government agency that faithfully safeguards our sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction; to our diplomats, legal experts, scientists, and public servants whose dedication transformed principle into lasting national strength; and to every Filipino whose love of country keeps our Republic strong.

Today, the West Philippine Sea remains vital to our livelihood, our security, our environment, and our future. In an increasingly complex maritime environment, the Arbitral Award continues to guide our actions and remind us that peace is secured not by abandoning our rights, but by upholding them responsibly and in accordance with international law.

As we raise our flag today, let us remember that patriotism is not measured only in times of conflict. It is measured in how faithfully we always uphold what is right, how firmly we stand for our nation, and how steadfastly we defend our sovereignty through the rule of law.

On this day, let every flag raised across the Philippines affirm one enduring truth that a nation united in purpose will always find strength in the rule of law. Let this anniversary renew our pride in being Filipino, strengthen our resolve to protect what generations before us have entrusted to our care, and inspire every Filipino to build a future where our sovereignty is secure, our peace is enduring, and our commitment to the rule of law never wavers.

Together, let us carry forward the legacy of a nation that chose law over force, courage over fear, and peace without surrendering principle.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas, at mabuhay ang Sambayanang Pilipino!

Nationwide Flag-Raising Unites Filipinos in Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award

Thousands of Filipinos across the country took part in the Nationwide Flag-Raising Ceremony on 06 July 2026, officially opening the nation’s commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award.

The simultaneous observance was led by the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) and saw the participation of its member agencies, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines through the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force, the Philippine National Police, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and local government units nationwide.

The Department of Education (DepEd), while not a member of the NTF-WPS, also actively joined the initiative, with public schools across the country participating in the ceremony. They were joined by national government agencies, constitutional offices, government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), state universities and colleges, private educational institutions, civil society organizations, private sector partners, and countless Filipinos in the nationwide observance.

The broad participation reflected a shared commitment to honor the landmark 2016 Arbitral Award, uphold the rule of law, and reaffirm the country’s dedication to protecting its sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction through peaceful and lawful means.

As the nation continues to uphold the 2016 Arbitral Award, this ceremony stands as a powerful reminder that a united Filipino people remains steadfast in defending the country’s national interests.
