NSC joins National Peace Walk to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 Arbitral Award

In commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the landmark 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award, officials and employees of the National Security Council (NSC) joined thousands of Filipinos from government agencies, the uniformed services, civil society organizations, the academe, the private sector, and the general public in the National Peace Walk 2026 on 12 July 2026 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

In his message, National Security Adviser and NSC Director General Eduardo SL Oban Jr. highlighted that the Arbitral Award stands as a lasting affirmation that disputes must be resolved through international law, not through coercion or the use of force. He emphasized that safeguarding the country’s lawful rights and preserving peace require the unity, vigilance, and active participation of every Filipino.

As Chair of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS), Secretary Oban continues to lead the government’s whole-of-nation efforts to uphold the country’s lawful maritime rights and interests. The NSC, as the Secretariat of the NTF-WPS and head of its Information Working Group, remains committed to advancing strategic communications, strengthening public understanding of the West Philippine Sea, and fostering national unity in support of a peaceful, rules-based international order.

The National Peace Walk 2026 served as a reminder that the 2016 Arbitral Award is not only a landmark legal victory for the Philippines, but also a continuing call to uphold the rule of law, safeguard the country’s maritime rights, and work together in preserving peace and stability in the region.
